Today, SHARE SMR Inc, of Carlton NSW received a SILVER Quality Award from Fitness Australia for its proven ability to provide quality service across its business. Fitness Australia’s Health and Fitness Industry Quality Awards promote and celebrate industry excellence and the work the fitness industry does in helping Australians to get and stay fit and healthy.
The SILVER Quality Award is granted to a fitness business that has achieved quality in customer service, programs, people, safety and business management.
“The Quality Awards are the highest accolade that our industry can award to fitness providers, and SHARE should be proud of its achievement. SHARE’s customers can be confident that they are with one of the very best fitness providers in the country” said Ms Lauretta Stace, Chief Executive Office of Fitness Australia.
“We are thrilled to receive the SILVER Quality Award, it is a great honour to be recognised by our colleagues for the service we provide to the community, and last year SHARE received a Bronze Award “said Adrian Prakash General Manager of SHARE.
This is the third year that Fitness Australia, the industry’s peak body, is running the Awards and this year, 77 fitness businesses across Australia were granted a Quality Award.
“Since we started this Not for-profit organisation, we have seen the number of people interested in the service we provide grow exponentially” said Adrian Prakash, General Manager of SHARE.
“Given more than 60% of Australian adults are overweight or obese and with the increase in chronic conditions, hawse has a vital role to play in the health and fitness of our community. But with this role comes the responsibility of providing high quality programs and striving for continuous improvement. This Award is proof that we deliver a quality service and we are committed to raising the bar even higher” said Adrian.
SHARE is a not for profit medium to small sized organisation that offers its services to over 1,000 participants per term. For over 29 years SHARE has been providing a range of varied, affordable, appropriate and accessible physical activity programs to the community in the Sydney metropolitan area, to improve or maintain health and wellbeing. Our low cost physical activities mainly for older adults are conducted by qualified leaders in community venues therefore making them more accessible for people. SHARE’s classes enhance the wellbeing of people over 50 years through exercise, offering a range of innovative and accessible exercise programs and providing opportunities for more people to be physically active and healthy.
SHARE promotes healthy lifestyle and assists people in their management of chronic conditions through exercise and education. We increase awareness of the benefits of health and fitness activities to our target market by positioning SHARE as experts in health and fitness services for the over 50s and special populations. SHARE’s programs are cost effective and economical and work towards an inclusive society. Our programs increase the awareness of the services available to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, promote social harmony amongst wider communities and fosters and support community development activities.
“Many of our participants attend our classes not only for exercise but also for friendships they form, a reason to get out the house which helps with the sense of isolation, helps with pain and chronic illness, people feel more confident and are not self-conscious of how they look or what they wear to our classes”, said Adrian.
SHARE is jointly funded by Sydney Local Health District and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District for which we are very grateful and we also raise funds through local council, other grants and fundraising to ensure financial stability and sustainability. About the Quality Awards
The 2014 Health and Fitness Industry Quality Awards program was administered by the Improvement Foundation. The program involved the completion of a self-assessment questionnaire followed by a thorough on site assessment. The Improvement Foundation has a proven track record of delivering formal dedicated quality improvement programs in the primary health sector.
Criteria for the Health & Fitness Industry Quality Awards were grouped into four areas:
- Programs, Services & Customer Care: Programs and Services reflect best practice and produce positive outcomes.
- People (Workforce): The workforce is capable of delivering and supporting the services provided.
- Risk, Safety & Environment: The environment is safe and appropriate for both staff and customers, and that risks have been identified and managed.
- Business Management &Leadership: The business is effectively managed. Information is collected, stored and used to develop the business appropriately.

Silver Quality Award recipients were evaluated on being able to demonstrate well planned intent and sound implementation against all criteria and evidence of improvement against several criteria.
