Every week, office staff, Board members and volunteers connect with older members of the community who are living in their own homes, are isolated and are in need of assistance with basic staples, pick up of medicines, travel to appointments and the shops.
Some of our participants are vulnerable particularly to COVID -19, we have quickly planned and implemented support services to provide what they need, alleviate heighten levels of anxiety and a familiar face. We have kept in constant touch with our participants, partners, suppliers and general community alike by making calls to check-in or a zoom conversation with office staff.
As more care, our team has created care packages for individual participants and delivered as required. Packs are personalised so that there is something special that puts a smile on their face. General community have also been receiving our care pack, cooked food and food hampers, there is desperate need for basic things and we have filled that void. Our aim is to show that we are thinking of them and care for them on a very human level.
We have tried our best to assist as much as we can within our budgetary constraints and it is nothing short of rewarding. More than 60 care packs delivered in one week, 100+ food hampers dropped off house to house and educational materials in relation to exercise and nutrition provided to ensure they eat well and stay healthy. In addition we are assisting them with various pathways to seek assistance, counselling and rental assistance.
We are purchasing more food and basic essentials and to deliver, these are done twice a week now because the of enormous demand. We started as a small gesture but are now the demand has increased exponentially and with limited finances and resources we are doing our best.
