Give these three activities a go with the grandchildren this summer – we guarantee they will be a hit, and will help you stay active in a gentle and safe way while creating joygul family memories.
Be a Gardening Guru
Whether you have a small yard or a balcony – gardening is something we can all get involved in. It’s a great way to get outside in the fresh air and can be done while seated or with many small breaks to make it sustainable for you. Kids love to help with planting or finding snails or caterpillars.
Did someone say (Seated) Musical Statues?
Who remembers dancing to the music and trying to freeze positions once the music stops? This is a great one for the kids – and for you too, as dance helps improve coordination, balance and flexibility. It’s also one you can all do while sitting down – and using your arms to groove to the beat. This is a great one for those with arthritis or knee pain.
Time for a Scavenger Hunt!
Secretly hide an object around the home, such as a soft toy or a sports ball. Then give the kids clues on where to find it. This strengthens the brain muscles by encourage everyone to think creatively, and the body by giving an opportunity for gentle walks around the house. It’s also a great one when stuck inside during those summer downpours!
